Every year, the Calgary Justice Film Festival gets better and better. With 20 films to be screened from across Canada and around the world, many of them award-winning films, we think you’ll agree that this year’s film festival promises to be one of the best yet. From the festival schedule available on both the CJFF and The Confluence websites, you’ll see that discussions about the documentary just screened will be hosted by filmmakers, experts, or those who have lived the experience depicted in the film.
By hosting an annual film festival about social and environmental justice matters, we, the organizers, hope that viewers leave as better-informed citizens. Informed citizens contribute to shaping and enhancing their community to be more inclusive, respectful, and just.
CJFF Opening Night
Indigenous Lens is the theme of our opening night at The Confluence on Thursday, November 21. Arrive early so you can take in the events that kick-off at The Confluence at 6:00 p.m. with drumming, dancing, and a blessing from a First Nations Elder. The films to be screened that evening focus on indigenous people, including their history and culture as well as their struggles and resilience. The evening’s documentaries will be followed by a short discussion.
ShowPass Ticket Admission
To ensure you have a seat at the film/s of your choice, you will need to book your no-charge seat via ShowPass. The process is straightforward. (As something of a tech-dolt myself, I managed to book my tickets with relative ease.) You can do the same through either the CJFF OR The Confluence website. You’ll find the process much the same for either site. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Visit CJFF here! From our site you can review the film schedule. To get a bit of information about the films you’d like to see, scroll down to Film Descriptions, where each film is listed along with its start time and location at The Confluence. Each film is accompanied by a “Learn More” button which you can click to obtain a brief synopsis along with a film trailer. To obtain a seat for the film you’d like to watch, click “Get Tickets” and follow the prompts. For example, you will be asked to enter your first and last name, how many tickets you’d like, and your email address. You’ll provide your email twice, the second time to confirm that your address is correct.
2. Visit The Confluence here! You have two options here:
You will see CJFF 2024 | Day One: Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024. Below this banner you can click on “See All Films.” By clicking on this link, you will see the film titles along with the date and time they are showing. Click on “Show More” for the film synopsis, the length of film, and the theatre in which the film will be screened. To reserve a seat for the film of your choice, click on “Find Tickets.”
OR
After clicking on the link above, scroll down a bit to CJFF 2024 DAILY LINEUP. When you click on either Day One, Day Two, or Day Three, you will see the lineup of films scheduled for that day, complete with each film synopsis and trailer. Information about when the film begins, when the doors open, in which theatre the film will screen, as well as when the film discussion begins is also available here. Whichever film you want to see, click on Get Tickets and follow the prompts as directed.
Lastly…
When you reserve your ticket, be sure to click Complete at the end of the process to finalize your booking.
Also…
If you plan to see more than one film on the same day, be sure to select films showing at different times.
If you encounter any problems while booking your ShowPass ticket, email marketing@theconfluence.ca and include:
- your first and last name
- how many tickets and for what films
- your preferred email so you can get reminders
If booking your ShowPass ticket online is a problem, you can register your seat, based on availability, with a volunteer at the door.
Alberta Wilderness Association will be participating in our 2024 Peace Market.
Peace Market
People who have attended a Calgary Justice Film Festival in the past will have fond memories of CJFF’s Peace Market. This year, the Peace Market will be held at The Confluence, on Saturday,
November 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
You can anticipate the representatives of this community of not-for-profit and volunteer organizations to share food, crafts, and information about their mission and purpose. Among regular vendors such as Alberta Wilderness Association, Ujamma Grandmas, Citizens for Public Justice, and Mennonite Central Committee, staff and volunteers from other NGOs new to the Peace Market will also be as enthusiastic in sharing with you what they do to support social justice in Calgary.
For the full list of nonprofits participating in this year’s Peace Market community, visit here.
