justNEWS
Happy New Year to all of our wonderful friends, sponsors, partners, and supporters. You are the heartbeat of CJFF and we’re ever grateful for your interest and support of our organization.
A quote from Pinchas Gutter, a 93-year-old Holocaust survivor, author, educator, and Order of Canada recipient, provides us with a fitting resolution for this year:
It's very important for holocaust survivors—or anybody else—to spread togetherness and goodwill… Because drop, by drop, by drop, like water on a stone, the world can become a better place.
May we all be inspired every day to spread togetherness and goodwill.
CJFF Opening Night
Annual Calgary Justice Film Festival
From Thursday, November 21 to Saturday, November 23, 2024, CJFF hosted its annual film festival at The Confluence, a first-time occurrence at this site. Event organizers could not have been more thrilled with the outcome: the showcasing of 20 remarkable films from local, national, and international film-makers; a robust, diverse attendance of almost 2,000 people; discussion facilitators who readily shared their expertise and often-times gut-wrenching experiences; as well as engaged, lively audiences who dined in style with concession food and beverages.
A number of new and returning volunteers directed festival attendees to either of the two theatre venues at The Confluence. Inland AV did an outstanding job in ensuring problem-free film screenings. Peace Market vendors offered a warm welcome and informative conversations to the spectators who stopped to chat at their table displays on Saturday.
Between film screenings, attendees mingled easily with one another, they made use of the historical exhibits to learn more about the origins and early days of Calgary, and they enjoyed the Indigenous drumming and chanting, and the Ukrainian dancing. And all this while a fierce wind blew and snow drifted around the many cars in the parking lot.
We extend a million thanks and a huge round of applause to our partners, sponsors, and supporters whose financial and material support make our annual film festival possible.
CJFF board members and The Confluence staff are reviewing the festival feedback received and we are sizing up what went well and what needs improving for our next events.
We’ll announce the dates for the 2025 film festival in our next newsletter—so stay tuned! Until then, if you want to see what events our partners are hosting, take a look at their upcoming events:
